Κέρκυρα
Corfu, also known as Kerkyra, is the second largest island in the Ionian Sea and the fourth largest in Greece. The island is renowned for its unique natural beauty, combining the dense vegetation of its mountains with the sandy beaches and the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea. The entire region has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, primarily due to its architectural and historical significance.
The capital of the island is Corfu Town, which dominates the bay of the same name. It is famous for its historical monuments, such as the Old and New Fortresses, the Spianada Square, and its architecture, which reflects both Italian and Venetian influences. Corfu Town offers a unique atmosphere with narrow streets, cafes, and shops.
The second largest town is Agios Nikolaos, which is popular among visitors and connects to the island’s center.
Corfu is easily accessible, either by air or through the island’s ports:
- Corfu Port (From Igoumenitsa – Corfu)
- Agios Stefanos Port (From Paxos – Agios Stefanos)
- Lefkimmi Port (From Patra – Lefkimmi)
