The Prefecture of Ilia is located geographically in the northwestern Peloponnese and is administratively located in the region of Western Greece. The capital of the prefecture is Pyrgos.

It is a prefecture of particular historical importance as there is Ancient Olympia the most glorified sanctuary of ancient Greece dedicated to the god Zeus, which was the venue of the Olympic Games. The archaeological site of Olympia has been designated as a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Katakolo is a beautiful, coastal village and port. Located a short distance from the capital of Pyrgos, it is connected either by road or by train.

Kourouta is located 20 km northwest of Pyrgos and is a well-known holiday resort as it has a sandy beach, sea activities, recreation areas and entertainment centers.

In the southwest of the prefecture are the thermal springs of Kaiafa, which attract many visitors all year round and are an important source of tourism in the area. The facilities for the practice of the Greek water ski team operate in the same place.
